There are so many things you can do with accidentally vegan Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. These sweet rolls are quick to whip up for the perfect for breakfast, dessert, or sweet snack. I loved these all so much I couldn't choose a favorite. The chocolate version almost has the flavor of chocolate croissants and are delicious both warm and cold (the chocolate hardens when they cool down). The apple butter version is perfect for apple pie lovers, and the cinnamon bun is like your very own homemade version of ooey gooey Cinnabon. Try these all out for yourself and see if you can choose a favorite!
Chocolate Crescent Rolls:
1 package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
1/2 cup chocolate chips, melted
Powdered sugar for topping
Cinnamon Bun Crescent Rolls:
1 package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
Cinnamon sugar: 1/2 cup white sugar + 1 tbsp cinnamon
Glaze for topping: 1/4 cup powdered sugar + 2 tsp dairy free milk
Apple Butter Crescent Rolls:
1 package of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
1/2 cup of apple butter
Cinnamon sugar for topping: 2 tbsp white sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375° F.
Lightly grease a baking sheet and set aside.
Gently roll out the crescent roll dough on a cutting board, and separate the dough in to the 8 pre-cut triangular pieces.
Prepare your crescent rolls:
Chocolate Version: Melt the chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave (start by heating them on high for 30 seconds, then stir, then heat in 10 second bursts until the chocolate is melted). Using the back of a spoon or a brush, cover each dough triangle completely to the edges. Carefully roll them up starting on the widest sides, then transfer to the baking sheet.
Cinnamon Bun Version: Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Cover each dough triangle completely with the cinnamon sugar, about 1 tbsp each. Roll them up starting on the widest sides, then transfer to the baking sheet. Make the glaze in a separate bowl by mixing the powdered sugar and plant milk together. It should be thick, but thin enough to drizzle (add 1/2 tsp more milk at a time until you get to the desired consistency).
Apple Butter Version: Using the back of a spoon, cover each dough triangle completely to the edges with about 1 tbsp of apple butter each. Roll them up starting on the widest sides, place them on the baking sheet, and sprinkle the tops with the cinnamon sugar.
Bake the crescent rolls: each version should take about 9 minutes in the oven.
Remove them from the oven and let them rest on the baking sheet for 1 minute.
Transfer them to a cooling rack.
Sprinkle powdered sugar on the chocolate ones, and the powdered sugar glaze on the cinnamon bun ones.
