My favorite vegan "bacon" substitute: tempeh! These vegan tempeh bacon crumbles are amazing in just about everything. Pasta, salads, sandwiches, wraps, tofu scramble, you name it! The tempeh gets nice and crispy, and the smokey flavor strongly resembles bacon. This is even non-vegan approved by my friends and family. Try this out next time you're making breakfast, lunch, or dinner and drop a comment below letting me know how you like it!
Ingredients:
4 oz tempeh
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tbsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp liquid smoke
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp garlic powder
2 tbsp neutral-flavored oil
Directions:
Start by marinating your tempeh bacon.
Break up the tempeh into small pieces and place in a bowl.
Add all the bacon ingredients to the bowl, mix until the tempeh is evenly coated, then let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
After the tempeh is done marinating, cook in a frying pan over medium heat.
Cook, stirring occasionally, for 5-10 minutes, or until the tempeh is dark brown and slightly crispy.
Remove from heat.
Serve on pasta, salads, tacos, rice bowls, sandwiches, and more!
Tips and Tricks:
Store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
These tends to get less crispy as time passes. If you want to crisp them back up, add to a dry frying pan over medium heat for a few minutes.
